As of 1st March 2022, Microsoft will be increasing the prices of the following licenses. This is the first substantive price update since June 2011, and is as a result of the constant innovation and development of their applications. This change builds on the product innovation Microsoft has delivered over the past ten years to meet the changing needs of customers adding over 25 new apps and over 1400 features as shown in the below image.
What are the prices increasing by?
- Microsoft Business Basic by 15%
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium by 15%
- Office 365 E1, E3 and E5 by 15%
- Microsoft 365 E3 by 15%
Does the price increase apply to existing customers?
Existing customers are not impacted from the increase until their next contract renewal on or after 1st March 2022, after which two new licensing options will then be available to choose from. Introducing the New Commerce Experience licensing options from Microsoft (NCE)
Microsoft has recently announced two new options to enable greater flexibility in how customers purchase and manage their Windows 365, Microsoft 365, Power Platform and Dynamics 365 licenses. This change introduces long term cost savings and additional features for all customers and is available from 1st March 2022.
The two alternatives available for customers to choose from are:
Option 1 – Fixed Annual Agreement
Choose a 12 month license engagement that keeps your current price stable for that duration but only allows the cancellation of licenses once a year. This is a good option for businesses that do not foresee changes in their license numbers for the next 12 months.
Option 2 – Flexible Agreement
This option is a rolling 30 day licensing contract, a flexible option for businesses that aim to up or downscale their license volumes. Customers can make these changes once a month for an additional 20% administrative fee on top of their license cost.

Option 1 Fixed Annual Agreement
- 12 month subscription
- Increase licensing volumes at any time
- Cannot decrease licensing volumes until annual renewal
- Can only cancel licenses during the first 72 hours of contract
- Your license prices are locked in for 12 months
- Paid monthly or annually
- Same price as legacy annual/monthly option plus the 15% rise
Option 2 Flexible Agreement
- 1 month subscription
- Increase licensing volumes at any time
- Decrease licenses on the monthly renewal date
- You’ll pay an additional 20% premium on top of license cost
- Can only cancel licenses during the first 72 hours
- Paid monthly
- License prices only locked in for 1 month and could increase
